Brussels, 16/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - The EU is taking very seriously the allegations made in a Council of Europe report that the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK), at the time under the command of Hashim Thaçi, who is now the prime minister of Kosovo, was involved in the traffic of organs at the end of the 1990s during the war against the Serbs. “We have seen the report and if the rapporteur, Dick Marty, has any concrete evidence we invite him to bring this forward to the relevant authorities, including the EU's police and justice mission EULEX”, the spokeswoman for Catherine Ashton told press on 15 December. “We take allegations of war crimes and organised crime very seriously.” She took the view that there was no link between these allegations and the outcome of Sunday's elections in Kosovo, which were won by Thaçi's party and after which Ashton said it was important to form a new government quickly (see EUROPE 10276).
