Brussels, 16/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament supports the targeted sanctions decided on Monday by the EU against Gbagbo supporters, but would like still more. In a resolution adopted in Strasbourg on Thursday 16 December, it calls on Ivorians to reject violence. Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, is invited to present new initiatives as soon as possible to support the democratically elected authorities in Côte d'Ivoire. On Wednesday, when addressing the EP plenary, the HR said: “The EU is ready to take its responsibilities regarding targeted measures (…) but we are also prepared to take measures to support the legally elected authorities”.
