Nokia Siemens to acquire Motorola's mobile network

Brussels, 15/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - On 15 December, the European Commission approved the acquisition by Nokia Siemens Networks B.V. of the Netherlands of Motorola Network Business (MNB) of the US, which designs, manufactures, sells and installs mobile network systems for mobile service providers. Nokia Siemens Networks operates in the same area, providing mobile and fixed network infrastructure, communications and networks service platforms, as well as professional services to operators and service providers. The Commission investigation found that the parties' product portfolios were largely complementary and that MNB had a limited presence in the European Economic Area. Furthermore, the Commission decided that the combined entity would continue to face a number of large and effective competitors and sophisticated buyers. Concluding that the operation, of which it was notified on 11 November following a request from the merging parties, would not give rise to any competition concerns, the Commission authorised the concentration.
