Brussels, 07/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - On 10 December, world Human Rights Day, Radical Italian association “Certi Diritti” will, it has announced, publish confidential documents from the Council of the European Union “which confirm that some member states, using fallacious arguments, are blocking the (European Commission's) anti-discrimination directive”. The association has dubbed the operation to shed light on the anti-discrimination directive “Wiki-Rights”, in reference to the US dispatches the contents of which have been revealed by WikiLeaks. Certi Diritti will publish more than 70 Council documents which, it claims, “reveal the constant and sham opposition on the parts of some governments, in particular Italian, German and Czech, in relation to citizens' equality without discrimination, with the aim of blocking this directive”. Certi Diritti points out that, if approved, the anti-discrimination directive would make it possible to broaden efforts to combat discrimination based on sexual orientation, age, religion or handicap into the areas of social security, education and access to goods and services, including access to housing. The documents will be published on the internet site, http://www.certidiritti.it/wiki-rights.html . With its call to all the associations working for civil and human rights in Europe, Certi Diritti hopes to break the deadlock on the directive. In Italy, a parliamentary question will shortly be put by Radical MPs: the first signatories of which were Matteo Mecacci and Rita Bernardini, calling on the Italian government to state and justify its position with regard to the directive.
