Brussels, 02/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - Massimo D'Alema, former Italian Prime Minister and President of FEPS (Foundation for European Progressive Studies), takes the view that what is needed today is “more Europe” to face up to the challenges of globalisation and national decision-making. At the opening of the Party of European Socialists (PES) Council in Warsaw, he called upon Social Democrats from throughout Europe to give value and force to the European project and to strengthen the European tools and mechanisms for European integration. According to a FEPS press release, D'Alema called on some 500 participants at the Council representing all PES member parties meeting to discuss the current state of social democracy and social democratic parties in Europe. He took the view that opting for “more Europe” would be an answer to the return to nationalism, saying: “What lies ahead of us are arduous tasks for isolated governments in an increasingly globalised world”.
