25/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Italy: Lower chamber votes on additional seat. Virtually unanimously (there were two abstentions and two votes against) the Lower chamber of the Italian Parliament voted on Wednesday 24 November to adopt the amendments to the Lisbon Treaty which grant Italy an additional seat in the European Parliament (EP). The text will now go to the Senate for final approval. In voting, the governing majority was defeated twice in the secret ballot, with the result that the criteria for allocating seats was changed and the additional seat will not go to the majority but to one of the opposition parties. That is, unless the Senate disagrees. (Gp/transl.rt)
