On Thursday 25 November, the European Commission authorised the acquisition by GDF Suez Energia Italia (GDF-Suez Group for the production, transport and distribution of natural gas and electricity worldwide) of the whole of Acea Electrabel Produzione (AEP) and Acea Electrabel Trading (AET), a joint venture between GDF Suez Energia Italia and Acea S.p.A. AEP and AET are two Italian companies that operate in the generation and the wholesale supply of electricity respectively, and in the wholesale marketing of gas and electricity in Italy. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
