Improving transfer of technology and know-how

Brussels, 25/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Making the results of scientific research more easily accessible to policy makers and market players, that is the aim of the European Fisheries Technological Platform (http://www.eftp.eu ), which held its first general assembly on Wednesday 24 November. At this meeting the Platform elected the members to its Board of Directors which is made up of representatives of the various links in the fisheries chain and from academia.

Members of the Platform unanimously elected Javier Garat to the post of President for a two-year term of office. They also adopted the terms of reference of the Platform. Garat is the Secretary General of the Confederatión Española de Pesca (CEPESCA) and has been President of Europêche, the association of national organisations of fishing enterprises in the EU, since July 2009.

The first issue for the Platform is the implementation of an ambitious project which aimed at “improving the transfer of technology and know-how, the optimisation of the existing resources and the creation of synergies between the different links of the fisheries chain, in order to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of the enterprises and to contribute efficiently to the development of fisheries management policies in Europe”, a press release says.
