Brussels, 25/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Increased governmental control on the internet remains the most significant threat to the network's future, according to an informal survey carried out by the Internet Society (Isoc), an international independent organisation set up almost 20 years ago by one of the founding fathers of the internet. Survey respondents said that this element was a priority, more important than restricting access to content and services, the increase in cyber crime, attacks on privacy and the limited deployment of IPv6 (the most recent Internet Protocol IP version 6). Frederic Donck, the director of the European Isoc Bureau, said that the internet does, nonetheless, have the resources needed to tackle these challenges. He is calling on internet users to continue to promote an open, transparent and inclusive internet and underlines that “the health and well-being of the internet and society are inextricably linked” (I.L./transl.fl)
