Brussels, 22/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 26 October, as part of the Galileo programme, the European global navigation satellite system, the European Space Agency will sign a major contract totalling €194 million with industry, marking another huge step towards making Galileo a reality by 2014, when it will first become operational. On behalf of the European Commission, Vice-President Antonio Tajani will announce the signing of the contract for operations. The procurement for Galileo's full operational capability is divided into six work packages: - system support services; - ground mission infrastructure completion; - ground control infrastructure completion; - satellites; - launch services to put the satellites into orbit; - operations. This is the fourth work package to be signed. Two more work packages (ground mission infrastructure and ground control infrastructure completion) will be signed in early 2011. (Gp/transl.rt)
