25/08/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 24 August, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton condemned the terrorist attack that same day in the Somali capital Mogadishu. “I condemn the terrorist attack that took place in Mogadishu in Somalia,” she said in a press release, extending her condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured “in this unacceptable incident”. “The European Union,” she said, “remains fully committed to provide long-term support to the Transitional Federal Institutions of Somalia in their efforts to bring peace and security to the country and to build a stable Somalia”. On Tuesday, gunmen from the al-Shabab Islamist militia, which has links to al-Qaeda, attacked a hotel in a government-controlled area, killing 32 people including six MPs. (A.By./transl.rt)
