European insurance companies invited to join new impact study on Solvency II Directive

Brussels, 25/08/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is urging European insurance and re-insurance companies to take part in the fifth quantitative impact study (QIS5) on EU Directive 2009/138/EC on surveillance of the insurance industry. The new impact study will be carried out between now and November by the European Insurance and Professional Pensions Committee (CEIOPS) to help set out the details of the implementing measures for the Solvency II Directive and take a final decision on the own resources that insurance and re-insurance companies will be required to hold, explained EU Internal Market Commissioner Michel Barnier in a press release. CEIOPS has put the impact study's worksheets on its website. The European federation of insurance and re-insurance (CEA) will be organising workshops in Vienna on 21 September, Warsaw on 5 October, Tallinn on 7 October and Athens on 12 October with a view to encouraging industry to take part in QIS5.
