04/08/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, 4 August, the European Commission announced that five agricultural and food products had been added to the list of Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). These include the Italian bean “Fagiolo Cannellino di Atina” (PDO), the Spanish pepper “Pemento de Herbón” (PDO), French cheese the “Mâconnais” (PDO), the Czech cheese “Olomoucké tvarùžky” (PGI) and the German potato “Lüneburger Heidekartoffeln” (PGI). And five designations are added to the list of around 900 products already protected under legislation on geographical indications, designations of origin and traditional specialities. (O.L.)
