Brussels, 04/08/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European aeronautical sector is said to be prepared to invest in the development of the new generation of bio-fuels at European scale. Amongst other things, it is likely to be prepared to provide financial support to a project currently being developed by the University of Cranfield in the UK. This project, which was co-financed by the European Commission, will develop a marine platform of micro-algae to be used to develop a new generation of bio-fuels. As such, these bio-fuels will have no impact on foodstuffs and would not take up any cultivable land. The potential contribution of the aeronautical sector, which is still being looked into, may include the introduction of renewable energies into the aviation sector, the use of which is increasingly considered to be a vital measure to respond to the environmental objectives of the sector (stabilisation of emissions from 2020 and reduction by 50% by 2050 of 2005 emissions levels of the sector) (EUROPE 10008).
