Brussels, 04/08/2010 (Agence Europe) - In June 2010, compared with May 2010, the volume of retail trade1 remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.1% in the EU272. In May retail trade rose by 0.4% and 0.6% respectively. Eurostat figures published on Wednesday 4 August indicate that in June 2010, compared with June 2009, the retail sales index gained 0.4% in the euro area and 0.5% in the EU27.
In June 2010, compared with May 2010, “Food, drinks and tobacco” fell by 0.7% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU27. The non-food sector rose by 0.3% and 0.5% respectively. Among the Member States, total retail trade increased in eleven, remained stable in two and declined in six.
Annual changes illustrate that in June 2010, compared with June 2009, “Food, drinks and tobacco” rose by 0.1% in the euro area, but fell by 0.2% in the EU27. The non-food sector gained 1.4% and 2.1% respectively. Total retail trade increased in twelve and declined in seven. (A.B)
