OECD forecasts further international migration

Brussels, 13/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 12 July, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) announced that global economic recovery is expected to begin creating enough jobs to stimulate further immigration to developed countries next year. The OECD report on international migration flows demonstrates that the number of immigrants fell by around 6% to around 4.4 million people in 2008 and continued to fall last year, which effectively put an end to 5 consecutive years of rising immigration levels at an annual average rate of 11%. Global immigration fell during the crisis but as long as the economic recovery continues, the new migrant flows will be necessary to rectify labour and skills shortages, concluded the new OECD report.
