Brussels, 17/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - The Spanish minister for science and innovation, Cristina Garmendia, declared on Tuesday 15 June, that science and technology would be the mainstay in the global war against climate change and would be used to help support an economic model and sustainable energy. The minister warned that “in this struggle, where science and technology will be the main weapons, everything suggests that China and the US are getting ready”. The minister made this declaration during the opening of a seminar on agri-forestry green house gas absorption sinks, held in Madrid. EU experts and leaders in the environment field attended the seminar. Garmendia urged greater involvement of the scientific sector in finding solutions to current problems, “a position that is not yet widespread in the scientific system”. (B.C./transl.fl)
