Information campaign on European marking

Strasbourg, 15/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 15 June, under the title “CE marking makes Europe's market yours!”, the European Commission launched an information campaign on EC marking. The marking signals that a product is in compliance with all relevant EU legislation, making it eligible to be marketed and sold throughout the EU. EU marking does not concern all EU products but 23 different categories of products, such as toys, electrical equipment, machines, personal protective equipment and lifts. By placing the CE mark on products, the manufacturer takes the responsibility to ensure that the product complies with all legal provisions in force, mainly those relating to health, safety and environmental protection. The magnitude of the legal and economic repercussions of CE marking abuse is such that most serious companies are deterred from not complying with the rules. The information campaign launched by Industry Commissioner Antonio Tajani above all targets economic operators and aims to heighten their awareness to CE marketing and its significance. The campaign includes 30 events/seminars to heighten CE marking awareness for economic operators, professional associations, consumer organisations and journalists.
