Brussels, 15/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 15 June, the European Commission opened dialogue with the Republic of Moldova on a visa-free scheme. The aim of the dialogue is to examine the relevant conditions for visa-free travel of Moldovan citizens to the EU as a long-term goal. The talks, which began yesterday in Luxembourg on the occasion of the EU-Republic of Moldova Cooperation Council, will allow the EU and Moldovan authorities to determine the technical conditions to be met before a visa-free regime for Moldovan citizens can be set in place. Talks will focus on key areas such as the security of travel documents, border and migration management, as well as relevant public order and security and external relations issues. Since 1 January 2008, Moldovan citizens have enjoyed the advantages of the agreement sealed with the EU for facilitating visa issuance. (B.C./transl.jl)
