26/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - In a conclusions document published on Tuesday 25 May, the EU's Competitiveness Council urges the European Commission to unveil new legislation to provide centralised access to information in the 27 member states' trade and company registers online. The conclusions document notes that the new legislation should organise cooperation among the member states' registers for cross-border procedures like mergers, de-mergers, relocation of company headquarters, registration and foreign subsidies. In the longer term, the register of national trade and company registers might be connected with an online network of information about companies quoted on the stock exchange (introduced in the EU's Transparency Directive 2004/109/EC).
