Brussels, 26/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - On 20 May Eurojust announced that 67 arrests had been made during the smashing of a counterfeiting ring in Naples for clothing and tools imported from China. During the investigation, which started in March 2008, some 800 tonnes of counterfeit goods to a value of €12 million were seized in raids on 143 warehouses in France, Belgium and Germany, announced the EU judicial cooperation agency, Eurojust. The ring specialised in selling tools like electric generators and drills, along with clothing made in China to which false labels were attached to make them look like famous brands. The goods were then sold throughout the world from the port of Naples in Italy. Companies whose goods were counterfeited include Bosch, Honda, Huqsvarna and Stihl. The electrical equipment did not meet EU standards and was therefore a huge potential danger for users' health and safety, according to Eurojust. (B.C./transl.fl)
