03/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - 133 Dutch social housing organisations have launched an appeal against a decision made by the European Commission, in which the latter stipulates that social housing organisations do not have the right to allocate social housing to households whose income is above €33,000. This decision would mean that double income households are obliged to buy a property or attempt to find a more expensive rental option. These organisations believe that social housing policy must remain a Dutch affair. They state that, “Brussels has interfered in an affair that does not concern it”, adding that this decision particularly affects modest income households. (G.B. /transl.fl)
