29/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - In common with the entire international community, the EU has strongly condemned the two attacks carried out in the Moscow metro on Monday 29 March, leaving nearly 40 people dead. The leaders of the various European institutions have issued press releases sending out their condolences to the families of the victims. "I condemn in the strongest terms these acts of cowardice for which there is no justification", said the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy. The High Representative, Catherine Ashton, spoke of the solidarity of the EU with the Russian people. "The European Union stands resolutely together with the Russian authorities in its efforts to counter terrorism in all its forms", said the President of the Commission, José Manuel Barroso, whilst the President of the EP, Jerzy Buzek, called for an in-depth investigation into the origins of this terrible attack.
