Summit on 11 February will be held in restricted formation

Brussels, 02/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - The informal European Council to be held on 11 February, convened by Herman Van Rompuy, will not be held on the Council premises but at the smaller location of the Bibliothèque Solvay, with only the 27 heads of state and government and the president of the Commission. The advisers - one per leader - will remain in a nearby room. “The aim of this kind of meeting, organised in a more intimate context, is to allow the exchange of views to be as open and frank as possible”, sources close to the permanent president of the European Council say. The meeting will begin in the morning with the traditional meeting with European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, followed by a debate on the EU's future economic strategy. After lunch, the 27 leaders will speak of forthcoming talks on climate change before taking stock of the aid situation in Haiti. A press conference in Council will bring the summit to a close.
