Brussels, 02/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 2 February, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Sylvan Shalom asked Italy to support Israel's request that the EU include the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (Pasdarans) on the list of terrorist organisations. “In my meeting with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, I suggested to him that Italy might pass a law placing the Revolutionary Guards on the list of terrorist organisations, with a view to its being adopted by the European Union,” he is reported by AFP as saying. “I reminded him that he had already used his influence to get Hamas included on this list,” he added, referring to an EU decision dating from 2003. “A resolution of this sort would be the most severe blow possible for the Iranian regime,” Shalom said, stating that Israeli Prime Minster Benyamin Netanyahou, who is due to meet Berlusconi, would again raise the issue with the Italian Prime Minister.
