Brussels, 02/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - Marine biodiversity, the creation of a European coastguard, development of marine energies, coastal protection, marine waste processing, maritime transport and climate change: these are some of the dossiers that they European Parliament “Seas and Coastal Zones” Inter-Group will tackle in the coming years. Several MEPs from different nationalities in this inter-group and representing different political groups will guarantee coordination within Parliament, not only on subjects included in the Community Agenda, but also on subjects the inter-group considers priority.
Corine Lepage, (ADLE, France) explained that, “the objective is to have more weight when dealing with the Council and the Commission”. This MEP is president of the intergroup and according to a press release published on Monday, 1 February by the Committee for Peripheral and Maritime Regions (CPMR) , she will ensure the secretariat of the EP maritime intergroup. The first meeting of the intergroup is planned for the next plenary session in Strasbourg on 8-1 February. (L.C.)
