02/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - A report drafted by researchers in six EU countries argues for direct aid to European tobacco producers to be maintained until 2013, “if political conditions permit”. The report was presented at the EP agriculture committee on Wednesday 27 January. The aid could be funded through a tax on cigarettes, as happens in Switzerland. It would allow tobacco growers to diversify their activities in good conditions. (L.C./transl.rt)
