02/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - In a statement published on Tuesday 2 February, before the various decisions on Greek public finances are to be taken by the College of Commissioners, José Manuel Barroso says that, in the light of the “very ambitious” stability programme proposed by Athens, “the envisaged correction of the deficit is feasible but subject to risks”. The adjustment effort is appropriately front-loaded in 2010, Barroso said pointing out that the Greek authorities had pledged to take whatever measures were needed to avoid risks. “The Commission will be in charge of monitoring the implementation of the programme through very intense surveillance of budgetary developments in Greece. It will do it in a rigorous way,” said the Commission President. (A.B./transl.rt)
