Brussels, 27/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - At the Education, Youth and Culture Council on Friday 27 November, youth ministers adopted a resolution and held an exchange of views on the renewed framework for European cooperation in the youth field, to cover the period from 2010 to 2018. The new framework will be divided into three 3-year cycles, for each of which a number of priorities will be set. The resolution already sets out the priorities for the first part of the first cycle. The two new general objectives for European youth cooperation seek to create more opportunities and to provide equality of opportunity for all young people in education and in the labour market, and also to promote active citizenship, social inclusion and solidarity. Furthermore, the new resolution defines eight fields of action: education and training, employment and entrepreneurship, health and well-being, involvement, volunteering, social inclusion, young people in the world, creativity and culture. Ministers welcomed the greater coordination of youth policies promised by the new framework. They said that youth policy should be cross-cutting, and that efforts should be increased to encourage young people to become actively involved in decisions that affect them. The well-being of young people remains an immediate priority for member states, especially the well-being of disadvantaged young people who must be given particular attention on access to employment, healthcare, and creativity.
