Brussels, 27/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 27 November, culture ministers adopted a decision approving the European Year of Volunteering 2011, to promote active citizenship. The Council agreed to increase the budget for the activities to be organised in 2011 from €6 million to €8 million, as was promised in informal discussions between Marco Scurria, European Parliament rapporteur, and the Swedish Presidency. The Scurria report adopted in Strasbourg on Thursday called initially for a budget of €10 million. (I.L./transl.rt)
