Brussels, 23/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 20 November, the Council of Ministers unanimously approved the compromise text on the "telecoms package". This decision comes further to the political agreement concluded on the night of Wednesday 4 November to Thursday 5 November between in the delegation of the European Parliament and the representatives of the member states meeting for the conciliation committee (see EUROPE 10013). The Parliament is expected to follow suit this Tuesday 24 November and ratify the agreement at its plenary session in Strasbourg. "The European Commission fought for this reform during two years, and I welcome that many of our European ambitions have been endorsed by ministers, thanks to the leadership shown by Swedish Presidency", said Viviane Reding, Commissioner with responsibility telecommunications and initiator of the reform.
