Working group on internal share-out of financial burden to be created in near future

Brussels, 05/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - The Swedish Presidency is carrying out a reflection on the form to be taken by the working group tasked with deciding on the details for the share-out between the member states of the EU's contribution to measures to fight climate change in developing countries. This working group, the creation of which was decided upon by the European Council to adjust the burden for the less prosperous member states (EUROPE 10010), will be instituted "very soon", the Presidency has announced. Even if the experts of the member states (from the permanent representations or the capitals) it will be made up of are able to start their work soon, "it is likely" that the results will not be known before the Copenhagen conference, the Presidency acknowledged, confirming the strategic nature of the agreement reached at the summit. Conforming to this decision, Poland is not expecting a solution before Copenhagen and takes the view that no genuinely new element will feed into the discussion of the working group before then. The proposals of the working group will have to be approved by the leaders of the EU27 by consensus, according to the separate document accompanying the conclusions of the European Council.
