05/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 5 November in Brussels, the presidents of the European Parliament and the European Union of Football Associations (UEFA), Jerzy Buzek and Michel Platini, met to discuss the problems currently confronting sport in Europe, particularly football. Five themes were tackled at the meeting: - protection of the European sports model based on a pyramid structure and concepts specific to sport and the autonomy of sport federations; - Michel Platini's initiative for creating fair financial conditions in Europe; - the protection of minors and clubs that train them; - betting, corruption and match fixing and finally the next EURO 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
