Brussels, 23/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 22 October, the European Commission cleared the proposed acquisition of Baxi, of the UK, by Dutch company De Dietrich Remeha (Remeha). Both companies manufacture central heating products, in particular boilers for domestic and commercial applications. The parties' activities mainly overlap in the manufacture and distribution of boilers used for central heating purposes. The Commission's investigation of the proposed transaction showed that the horizontal overlaps between the activities of Remeha and Baxi are limited and that the additional market share brought about by Remeha's acquisition of Baxi is generally small. In addition, the Commission found that the parties are not perceived as the closest competitors and that they will face several strong competitors in all market sectors. The Commission concluded, therefore, that the proposed transaction would not give rise to competition concerns. (O.L./transl.rt)
