07/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 7 April, the European Commission indicated that implementation of the 2001 framework decision on the status of victims in legal proceedings could be improved. According to the report, despite progress, most member states submitted legislative provisions to the Commission that were already in place before adoption of the framework decision, in the guise of transposition. This legislation aims to harmonise the way victims are treated in the Union. The Commissioner for justice, Jacques Barrot, deplored the fact that if, “member states did not amend their legislation in this way, it would mean a missed opportunity for creating a European legal culture.
