Brussels, 07/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - As the Georgian opposition gears up to march in the streets of Tbilisi on 9 April, the Czech Presidency is calling on organisers, protestors and even the government of Georgia to “act in a responsible and peaceful manner and exercise maximum restraint”. The political climate is tense in Georgia and the authorities there are afraid of clashes during the marches beginning this Thursday with a demonstration in the capital calling for Mikhail Saakachvili to resign. In a declaration published on 7 April, the Czech presidency also underlined the importance of political pluralism and constructive dialogue between the government and opposition. (A.B./transl.rh)
