21/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 21 December, the European Commission the planned acquisition of Vertex Standard of Japan by the US-based communications technologies operator Motorola. Vertex Standard is active in the design, manufacture and sale of two-way radios, which are also produced by Motorola. The Commission's investigation showed that the focus of the two merging parties as regards two-way radios is different. Motorola is mostly active in LMRs, especially professional ones, whereas Vertex Standard is more focussed on 'radio hams'. The Commission therefore believes the merger would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it. (C.D.)
