21/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 21 December, the European Commission cleared the proposed acquisition of EMS of Romania by Enel Sp.A. of Italy, the former Italian electricity incumbent. Enel generates and supplies electricity, mainly in Italy, but also in several other countries, including Romania. EMS (“Societatea Comerciala Filiala de Distribuþie ºi Furnizare a Energiei Electrice Electrica Muntenia Sud S.A.”) is active in the distribution and retail supply of electricity in the south of Romania. The Commission investigation revealed that, in the few markets where the companies' activities overlap, several other strong competitors were present and would continue to provide effective competition.
