03/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 3 September 2007, the Commission adopted a report on the implementation of macro financial assistance to third countries in 2006. Summarising the transactions carried out in 2006, the report provides information on the very latest transactions in the Western Balkans and the new independent states, along with the main transactions since 1990. Between 2000 and 2006, 17 decisions (13 of which were for the Balkans), totalling €960 million, were approved. In 2006, two decisions were adopted by the Council, one granting maximum aid of €33.5 million to Georgia, and the other granting €50 million to Kosovo. The Commission, on 9 October 2006, proposed the allocation of macro financial aid, amounting to a maximum of €45 million, to Moldova. This proposal was put to the Council, which approved it on 16 April 2007. Community macro financial assistance supports the efforts of beneficiary countries to bring about political and economic reform and is implemented in association with programmes. (ab)
