03/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - In a letter addressed to Commission President José Manuel Barroso on 31 August, Patrick Gaubert (EPP-ED, France), MEP, expresses concern about the possibility that European funds may be used to finance projects of a racist and homophobic kind. After the announcement made by the Polish minister for regional development, who stated on 28 August that she was thinking of subsidising “Maryja” radio with €15.5 million from the European Structural Funds for 2007-2013, Mr Gaubert voices his surprise given what he describes as the “unambiguous and acknowledged way that this radio channel supports homophobic, racist, discriminatory and anti-European values and whose worldwide notoriety is no longer in doubt”. He went on to call for Commission action to prevent such subsidies. (ab)
