Globalisation Institute opens permanent office in Brussels

Brussels, 03/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Globalisation Institute has named European Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy “European of the Year” for his vision and his work to make Europe more prosperous and job-creating. “… his efforts to extend the internal market will provide real benefits to businesses and consumers who will gain from greater choice and lower prices,” said Alex Singleton, President of the Globalisation Institute. After being set up in London in 2005, the Institute will open its doors in Brussels on 3 September. Through its research work, stance-taking and organisation of specific events, it will promote European openness to globalisation. The areas in which it will be most active are the environment, the internal market, agriculture, free trade, development, taxation and regulation. Liberal and anti-protectionist in inspiration, its influences include British Radicals Richard Cobden and John Bright, French economists Jean-Baptiste Say and Frédéric Bastiat, and Carl Menger, the founder of the Austrian school of economy.
