Brussels, 03/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 16 August the European Commission adopted proposals for the new fishing partnership agreement between the EU and Mozambique. The Council of Ministers of the EU is expected to adopt these texts to enable this five-year agreement to enter into force. The latter is authorising Community boats (Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and the United Kingdom) to annual catches of 10,000 tonnes of tuna: 44 purse seine vessels (23 Spanish, 20 French and one Italian) and 45 long-liners (21 Spanish, 15 French, 7 Portuguese and 2 British). The financial contribution of the EU in the new bilateral agreement will reach €900,000 per annum (as opposed to €4 million a year for 2004-06. More than €300,000 comes from licences paid by Community vessel owners, which have been revised upwards (€25-35 per tonne). (lc)
