08/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament adopted at the end of November in Brussels a resolution drafted by Jean-Marie Cavada (ALDE, France) calling for bridging clauses to be activated in the fields of police and judicial cooperation when relating to criminal matters, extension of codecision with Parliament, qualified majority vote in Council and the role of the Court of Justice. MEPs also stressed that the Council should envisage using qualified majority vote within its ranks, as well as extension of codecision with Parliament to sectors such as immigration or legal integration of third country nationals. Adopted by a large majority (488 for, 85 against and 25 abstentions), the resolution invites the European Commission to submit a draft decision to Council in 2007. (bc)
