07/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 7 November Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, Italian minister of finance, reiterated his wish to see a European stock exchange set up. Organised on a federal basis, this stock exchange would include the Borsa Italia, Euronext, which bring together the Belgian, British (derivatives only), French, Dutch and Portuguese, and the German stock exchange. Padoa-Schioppa declared that “The objective is to see a single stock exchange created, this is the objective of the Borsa Italia and the Italian government”. At the end of October in Berlin, Italian and German finance ministers clearly indicated their preference for a European solution. (mb)
