27/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has launched further consultation on a proposal of regulation that will make customs clearance using electronic means more systematic and which attempts to simplify the Community customs rules. It is mainly a matter of ensuring that rules set out within the framework of the various policies are consistent: customs, environment, security, taxation, etc. The draft regulation specifies, moreover, the rights and responsibilities of economic operators and carriers. Parties concerned have until 30 August to make their position known, on the Commission's internet site: http: //europa.eu.int/comm/taxation_customs/customs/consultations/customs_code_en.htm
