21/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - During a press conference on the fringe of the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg, the German co-president of the Greens Group/EFA, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, denounced the "strange developments" concerning the decision that should be taken by the conference of presidents of the political groups on the subject of forming a temporary committee on the Prestige oil tanker disaster and maritime safety. With the aid of the ELDR and UEN groups, the EPP-ED seeks to have a larger number of MEPs as members of this committee to ensure it holds the presidency, Mr Cohn-Bendit said. The same groups are also seeking to do away with the mention "Prestige" in the definition of the temporary committee's mandate which would mean it would only be tasked with assessing maritime safety risks.
