21/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - German Social Democrat Helmut Kuhne denounced after the discussion by the EP Committee on Budgetary Control on the Eurostat fraud affair, on Monday evening in Strasbourg, what he calls an attempt on the part of the right wing of the Parliament to block the judicial process currently underway in France concerning the former Eurostat Director, Yves Franchet. British Conservative Chris-Heaton-Harris and the Danish member of the Union for a Europe of Nations group, Mogens Camre, supported the wish of the lawyers representing Yves Franchet to appear together with their client before the Committee. Mr Kuhne commented: "I must assume that these self-styled Eurosceptics have no interest whatsoever in resolving the issues linked with the Eurosat case. What they want, rather, is a never-ending story, so that they can show their supporters that the Commission is unreformable and that the Parliament is unwilling to clear up the case".
