26/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - The likelihood of the pound joining the euro before the next UK general elections may well be compromised by the fall-out from the investigation into David Kelly's suicide in connection with the Blair government's justifications for going to war on Iraq, reports Tuesday's Guardian, quoting Labour and Tory politicians. On Thursday, Tony Blair will be giving evidence to the committee of enquiry (chaired by Lord Hutton), which will be interrogating the Defence Secretary, Geoff Hoon, on Wednesday. The Guardian reports that former Labour minister George Foulkes has lost all hope that the government can lead a pro-euro campaign since it has been derailed by other matters. The Conservative President of the European Movement, Ian Taylor, comments that all attempts to lead a pro-euro campaign have been thrown out of the window.
