New brochure on employers' priorities for Cancun

Brussels,26/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - Ahead of the 9-14 September WTO summit in Cancun (Mexico), European employers (Unice) have published a new brochure "Doha Development Agenda - Cancun - Moving forward together". It outlines the priorities presented in July 2003 by a high level joint Unice-Confindustria delegation to the Italian deputy minister for production, Adolfo Urso (see EUROPE of 26 July, p.13, for details).

In the document, Unice details its four priorities for the Doha Development Agenda if it is to made a success; namely improving market access for industrial goods, agreeing to facilitate trade, liberalising services and an ambitious agreement on trade and investment. Unice hopes Cancun will be a decisive step and breath new life into the final stage of negotiations over the Doha Development Programme (due to be concluded in January. Unice Secretary General Philippe de Buck notes that Unice in Cancun will be defending the views of European business and working with other corporate representatives.
