09/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - In an interview with the Belgian daily Le Soir, Karel Van Miert, President of the High Level group on trans-European transport networks (TEN-T), clarified the confusion made between his report on TEN-T and the Italian proposals to relaunch EU economic growth by investing in major infrastructure projects. "Even before our report is ready, the Italian Presidency has pillaged it to use it in order to devise a policy for relaunch. Ms de Palacio and myself have never conceived the infrastructure project as such. We considered there was an economic need in itself, because of Europe's delay in infrastructure. Now, if one wants to use our report to reactivate growth, why not?" he told the Belgian daily.
